Los Angeles has a ton of interesting photo shoot locations. Between the beach, downtown, Hollywood there is so much to choose from. Here are some suggestions:
1. Sunken City, San Pedro
I love this spot. It is a bit tricky to get to but good for agile families with older kids. Check out the shoot I did here.
2. Downtown Arts District
This area has changed so much in recent years. There are so many cool murals and walls – lots of backgrounds to use. A sample shoot can be found here.
3. Korean Friendship Ball
This ball is in San Pedro at Angels Gate Park and is very close to Cabrillo Beach. The last time I shot there we went to both locations so had lots of variety! Click here to see the shoot. Did you know there’s a marine aquarium nearby too?
4. Griffith Park Observatory
This is such a cool spot. There are lots of opportunities to capture cool angles and maybe even catch a glimpse of the Hollywood sign in a few shots. You may need extra time to find parking so definitely leave early if you decide to shoot here. It can be busy. See a family shoot here.
5. Walt Disney Concert Hall
So many shiny curves at the Walt Disney Concert Hall plus some other gritty downtown spots and the fun textured wall of the Broad Museum nearby.
6. Palos Verdes Malaga Cove
It’s hard to believe that this 1925 spanish renaissance building is a strip mall. Such a beautiful location with groves of eucalyptus trees nearby. Check out a recent shoot here.
7. Santa Monica Pier
The list would not be complete without the Santa Monica Pier. This is always good for a fun loving family shoot. A couple of rides may also be a fitting bribery reward for good behavior during the shoot :). The area under the pier has a lot of dimension and the ferris wheel makes for a cool backdrop on the beach. See the Wagner Family here.
8. Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook
Some nice views of Los Angeles here at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook. This Culver City location has some industrial features and a lot of greenery. Bring cash for parking at the top. Check out a family shoot here.
9. Venice Beach Skate Park
How can you tell I love graffiti? Here is an awesome mix between beach and urban grit. Fun walls and interesting features to incorporate. Look at my last shoot here.
10. Mission San Juan Capistrano
This one is a little further south in Orange County. You can’t beat the look of the old stone church. A little prep for the kids’ 4th grade mission field trips? This location requires a permit ($70 at press time) and advance booking. Here is a sample shoot.
11. El Segundo Industrial District
So many fun walls if you’re in the mood for a gritty shoot. See it all here.
